As I have always feared spicy food when little, as a teenager I never got to understand the meaning of life. Spice is life in Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
When I finally managed to get the whiff of Sichuan Chinese signature dishes and Korean kimchi-based dishes, it was but a matter of time before I learned to triumph over my fears. I now am able to savour chilli without rushing for cold water to quench my fire.
This is a simple Malaysian-Singaporean dish, but I am working my way to conquer spicier dishes, particularly Thai dishes.
